The Chilling Effect

Nobody in their right mind would willingly take a job where, with the stroke of a pen from Donald Trump or Republicans, their job could be eliminated.

That chilling effect is what’s left behind by the federal funding freeze on Head Start programs.

Sure, they've reversed course now, but the damage is done. If you can’t hire, you can’t run a Head Start program or any business. This will they/won’t they/move fast/break things approach strips businesses &organizations of the one thing they need more than anything: stability.

And it will actually be more costly in the long run. Because hiring is expensive. I’m hearing it directly from those testifying in front of our state Senate Oversight committee.

So here’s what I know: we have to build a government that actually works. We can invest in early childhood education, fund universal school meals and special education programs, offer universal Pre-K…

We can help our small businesses and make sure those investments raise incomes, build housing, expand transportation options, make our communities safer. How do I know?

Because that’s what we’re doing in MI. And it’s what we need to do on the federal level.

Stability, not sabotage.
